Connecting with our own creativity can be a pathway into appreciating the natural world around us. When we focus on the specific sensory experiences we have when surrounded by plants and nature, we can deepen our creative and meditative practices as well. In this event, explore spring ephemerals with writer and college English instructor Lindsy O'Brien to participate in focused writing exercises geared to broaden both your attention while in nature as well as your understanding of the craft of writing. You will leave with a list of prompts and practices to support you in building a natural and intuitive writing practice. All writing levels welcome! Visit arrowheadnativeplants.org/upcoming-meetings for more information. Skunk Cabbage Field Trip 4.11.2026 Weep with joy for willows and learn about the nuanced features that help us determine which willow is which! Willows have rich history in medicine, have deep roots in cultures around the globe, serve as an important food source for invertebrates, and are so effective with river bank and soil erosion stabilization they can become problematic. Join ANPE to discover the willow family! Learn more at Arrowheadnativeplant.org/upcoming-meetings Plant Mounting Workshop – Hawk Ridge Flora Interested in combining arts & crafts with plants? Join Arrowhead Native Plant Explorers for an evening workshop to mount plants collected at Hawk Ridge this year. The finished plant mounts will be donated to the Olga Lakela Herbarium at UMD. We have about 100 plants left to mount, so we can definitely use your help! At the same time, we’ll relax, talk to other members and listen to a podcast. How do we know if they are healthy or need restoration? This presentation recounting forest inventory surveys of several larger forested regions in Duluth (Mission Creek, Piedmont/Brewer’s Park & Lester - Amity - Hawk Ridge) will provide insight into how those questions are assessed and what the answers might be. Find more information at www.arrowheadnativeplants.org/upcoming-meetings/ Rare plants of the Arrowhead Region Join ANPE Tuesday, January 20, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm to familiarize yourself with rare species of the Arrowhead region. Learn how to prepare to find rare species and what to do or not do if you locate them. Anyone can find and report state-listed species. The more we collectively know about sensitive species, the better we can conserve them and protect their important habitats. More Info at: arrowheadnativeplants.org/upcoming-meetings
