For the third OSIG (Orchid Special Interest Group) event of the 2026 season, six ANPE members accompanied Susan Nygaard to a spot not far from the Munger Inn to view several colonies of the State Flower, the Showy Lady Slipper (Cypripedium reginae).
It was a warm and humid evening after some recent heavy rain, but the orchids were still in good shape, with about a third still in bud stage. One member also spotted an additional orchid, one of the many Platantheras that grow in our region.

Future OSIG events will include a weekend morning in the Knife River area to see Purple Fringed Orchids and a late summer outing to the Sax-Zim bog to see Ladies’ Tresses. If you’d like to join us, please register here.
